A song you listen to when you’re sad. There are two ways I can go with this – songs I listen to when I’m sad and want to feel better or songs I listen to when I’m sad and want to stay sad. I’m going to go with the latter since yesterday was happy songs and you can answer the first part of that with yesterday’s list.
I have playlists for this too (of course). I actually have a playlist called “Wallowy Pumpkins” which is comprised solely of slow, depressing Smashing Pumpkins songs. I have a playlist called Depression as part of my 5-stages-of-grief series. I have a playlist simply called “ow.” (as in ouch, my heart hurts, poor me!)
This is one of the worst/best from the wallowy Pumpkins mix. It’s also the most-recent Pumpkins song to receive a mention on the 30-day list. It’s got that awesome gritty BC power whine.
There are dozens of Iron and Wine songs that fit well into this category. Especially the pre-Shepherd’s Dog stuff. This one is particularly sad:
The Weepies are always a good choice if you’re sad and want to say sad. As their name implies, they’re good for crying to – they have said in interviews that making people cry is one of their goals. Well, I guess it’s more allowing people to cry or encouraging to let those emotions out. Not like haha suckers I’m going to make you BAWL LIKE A BABY!
Adele has said that about “Someone Like You” though. She loves seeing the stage guys cry when she sings it.
But the winner for this one was clear to me from the get go. Ani takes this category too. I can feel this one. I can envision it because it’s all such familiar territory. Airport pickups are always a little awkward, even without the pain and drama the folks in this song are going through. It’s the issues that come up at the end of any relationship – the why this didn’t work reflection time. It’s just so simple and pretty. Plus I’m a sucker for a sad piano.
No one on YouTube posted the whole song. You can’t cut the first two minutes of piano!
